The Gentile Times Reconsidered
by Spade indisproving the date 1914 as a significant year in bible prophecy is of great importance to some (e.g.
carl o. jonsson).
along with the meticulous details of bible and secular chronology, broadening one's horizons when assessing exactly what this date represents when compared against the 6000 years of human history likewise has merit.

What was Carls motivation re 587 / 607 you asked? (albeit in a snide accusing way...)
Well if you bothered to actually read his excellent book (4th edition) like I have then he gives the simple direct and honest answer:
He was asked to prove the WTs 607 date for the destuction of Jerusalem by someone he called on in the ministry while he was a pioneer. He investigated and it turned into several years of research and invesigation that FAILED to uphold the 607 date. He set out to prove 607 not disprove it! But in the effort found himself disproving it for himself and thankfully for many others as well including me. I for one am thankful for his logical approach and asking the hard questions.
Try THINKING. You might like it....
Edit to add:
Just in case you didnt realise it, ...by your being here continuing to post copy and paste "rebuttals" and trying to uphold the JW nonsense, you are in fact only aiding those you hope to defeat. You simply provide an excellent means for us to very publicly refute you and so the many lurkers here can see the truth about "The Truth (tm)" even clearer and a damn sight quicker. So have a pat on the back from me for services rendered.

As said already, you are in an excellent position of neutrality, non threatening potential recruit means they cant resist making an effort to answer your questions if posed in a non threatening way. Play it long and play it cool.
Throw him a bone but get him to do some leg work as well. Many topics to choose from but you may need to find a sweet spot of his to go with, some like prophecy, some history, others science, some are just religious through and through and the God is love angle may cut it, or quoting the gospel words of Christ may work for him instead. Find that interest that suits him. He may like facts. If so then you have an easier job.
For me reading C.T.Russells own words in the Studies in the Scriptures (early stuff) where he PROVES scripturally and mathematically and any other way he can what happened in 1874 (Christ presence he reckoned) and what WILL happen in 1914 (Armageddon). Reading that in hindsight nearly 90 years later showed what a crock of shit it was for me and opened my eyes greatly to the fact that we have been mislead by his false ideas and the whole edifice is built on his mistaken speculations. Further reading (it takes lots btw) of the history of the end time religions like the Adventists, 2nd Adventists, 7th Day Adventists, Millerites and that fact that the Bible Students (early JWs) were based on them and their mistaken ideas showed that Russell offered nearly nothing new or even genuinely his own. Then the fact that the whole J.W religion hinges on 1914 and that can be PROVEN to be nothing but another FALSE speculation is it's complete undoing. Jerusalem was destroyed in 587BCE not 607BCE as Russell insisted. That is a fact that can be PROVEN. Thereby the religion is in error. But hey thats me and its taken a couple of years to get here. Grrrrrr
Find his weak spot.

It did only it was invisible and only the bible savvy could detect it... next time it will be wearing a cloaking device, all but invisible when still but if it moves you'll be able to see that sucker for sure. Now get out there and tell the masses you slackers....

Needs help telling my mom that I dont want to be apart of her religion
by LovelyEunie ini really don't know how to just tell my mom that i dont want to do be a jw, i mean i really shouldn't have to tell her if she'd actually pay attention to my attitude everytime she goes on a religious rant, but she chooses to stay blind and keeps making me go to that place and sit through meetings that i don't agree with on most occasions...i think that she thinks that if she keeps making me go then i'll miraculously have a change of heart and want to stay in (which will never happen).
i don't want to be disrepectful about it but since she obviously doesn't care about my feelings towards it, then why should i care if i hurt her feelings in the process, you know?
i just really don't know what to do, everytime i go to that place i feel fake because everthing they instruct us not to do, i've pretty much done it or will do it with no remorse, and i don't care either way.

Are you baptised? It makes a hell of a difference if you are. I didnt see it in any of your posts. If you are not baptised you are in a very good position indeed.
Either way, just have that conversation with your mum and say you have doubts and it all seems a bit thin (the strength of the org being Gods sole chanel etc etc). That way you have set the ground work for a fade. No ministry. No meeting parts. Just go once a week for a few months. Then cut it down more. Or if you cant take it anymore then stop cold turkey but cause more family distress short term.
